How to talk to your game master
Plain language is the whole trick. Describe what your hero does; the table handles the rest.
Say what you want to attempt, not which rule to use. “I try to talk the guard into letting us pass” beats “I roll Persuasion.” You never need to name a skill, a stat, or a rule. Declaring the attempt is your job. Deciding what it takes is the table’s.
Three natural modes, no syntax:
- Act. “I climb the sea wall.” “I follow the tracks.”
- Speak. Just say it, or write the words your hero says.
- Ask. “What do I know about the old lighthouse?” Questions are free. Your game master will tell you what your hero would plausibly know or notice.
When dice enter. If your attempt has stakes and an uncertain outcome, a roll happens; see Dice & rules. If success is trivial, the story simply moves. If something is impossible, your game master says so.
A straight answer. Your game master is built not to quietly ignore an action: what you attempt either happens in the story, or you are told why it will not, so you can choose again. No silent shrugs.
Correcting the record. If a narration detail comes out wrong (a name, a detail from an hour ago), say so plainly: “Actually, I left the lantern with Calder.” Your game master takes the correction and moves on. If it still reads wrong after a correction, send it through the Discord feedback channel; those reports reach us directly.
